2014 Honda Pilot – A charming 8-passenger SUV
August 31 2014, Justin Barker
Honda’s truck-like SUV is a worthy consideration for consumers in need of an 8-passenger vehicle with good fuel economy ratings, and lots of interior space and storage versatility. The available rear DVD entertainment system is also a nice touch for parents wanting to keep their children occupied, and the available 4WD system is just perfect for those feisty winter months.
When considering the 2014 Honda Pilot, keep in mind that Honda has a record of reliability and customer satisfaction, and their vehicles are known for their good resale value, and enjoyable driving experience. Also, if you enjoy sitting higher up than usual, the Pilot not only provides a truck-like feeling, but it also allows drivers to view the road and cars ahead more easily. Visibility in this SUV is very good, as should be expected from a Honda vehicle, and even though it may be large and somewhat rectangular – part of its charm actually – the 2014 Pilot provides good manoeuverability, and parks with ease.
The 2014 Pilot is also comfortable, and offers available features meant to enhance this aspect, such as heated front and second-row seats, leather-trimmed seat surfaces, and power adjustable seats for the driver and passenger. Standard tri-zone automatic climate control with an air filtration system will also keep backseat passengers comfortable, and the second-row includes a foldable centre armrest.
As previously mentioned, the vehicle will also seat up to eight people, while allowing buyers to slide, recline, or split-fold (60/40) the second-row seat. The third-row bench, which is standard on all models, will also fold with a 60/40-split, and together with both second- and third-rows folded, cargo volume increases from 589 to 2,464 litres!
As to what powers the 2014 Honda Pilot, consumers will find a 3.5-litre V6 engine under the hood of the SUV. From it, owners can expect a total output of 250 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, and the option of four-wheel drive, ensuring the vehicle offers enough power and traction to keep drivers rolling through our long, Canadian winter season without any real hassle. The engine is also coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission, standard on all models.
Honda’s Variable Torque Management 4-wheel drive system is also available on the base LX model. Buyers can also expect a towing capacity of 2,045 kg when equipped with 4WD, and a heavy-duty automatic transmission cooler is standard on the EX trim and higher, although consumers that opt for 4WD will also benefit from this feature on the base LX model.
Fuel economy for the automaker’s Pilot is also satisfactory enough considering its size, with a combined city/highway rating of 10.0 litres per 100 kilometres when equipped with 2WD, and 10.5 L/100km with the 4WD system.
Inside the vehicle, consumers will find the 2014 Pilot to be rather quiet, even when on the highway. The SUV includes active noise cancellation, which buyers clearly benefit from, and features such as parking sensors, a rear-view multi-angle camera, and a satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition are standard on the top Touring model.
Available on the EX-L and standard on the Touring trim is also Honda’s DVD Rear Entertainment System that includes a 9-inch display, an integrated remote control, and wireless headsets with personal surround sound. An upgraded audio system is also worth looking into, offered on the top trim. The 650-watt AM/FM/CD premium audio system includes MP3/Windows Media Audio playback capability, and 10 speakers, including a subwoofer and 5.1 Surround Sound Theatre Mode.
The 2014 Honda Pilot is a charming, spacious and versatile 8-passenger SUV that parents and their children can really enjoy. For the full list of standard and available features, we also suggest contacting your Bruce Honda dealer for details, or book a test drive today!
