2014 Honda Fit – “The One Fit Wonder”
May 23 2014, Justin Barker
Honda’s hatchback is what the automaker considers “The One Fit Wonder.” The statement is justifiable, as the 2014 Honda Fit is indeed spacious and versatile. It is also affordable, fuel-efficient and easy to drive.
Buyers may be surprised by what seems like a massive amount of space within the vehicle. The 2014 Honda Fit may appear to be “small” on the outside, but it provides 2,572 litres of passenger volume, enough to fit two people in front, and three in back.
In regards to cargo space, the 2014 Fit offers 585 liters – the equivalent to two adults sitting in the trunk with their legs hanging out – and 1,622 litres thanks to the 60/40 Split 2nd-row Magic Seat. The seats are quite versatile, allowing the buyer to move them around in various positions. Honda has even named the four positions, using the term Tall, Utility, People and Long mode to describe them.
The 2014 Fit provides ample space within the vehicle, and with a price tag to appreciate. The new hatchback has a starting MSRP of $14,635 for the DX trim. The other trim levels include the DX-A, LX, and Sport. The latter is worth an MSRP of $19,055.
For the under 20K price before taxes and other fees, consumers can enjoy features such as a 12-volt power outlet, 2 speakers and an AM/FM/CD audio system for the base trim. The DX model also comes equipped with an MP3/auxiliary input jack and MP3 audio playback capability, among others.
HandsFreeLink and Bluetooth are offered on the LX and Sport trim, along with steering wheel-mounted cruise control and power door locks, to name a few. As for the entertainment features, the top two trims will include rear speakers, but only the Sport comes equipped with a USB device connector and 6 speakers. The LX is equipped with 4 speakers.
Under the hood of this spacious and affordable hatchback lies a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine. It will produce 117-horsepower and 106 lb-ft of torque, and it’s coupled to a standard 5-speed manual transmission with front-wheel drive. Those looking for something a little different can opt for a 5-speed automatic with Grade Logic Control, available only on the DX-A, LX and Sport models.
Honda’s “One Fit Wonder” hatchback is also fuel-efficient. When equipped with the manual transmission, one can anticipate a consumption rating of 7.1/5.7 litres per 100 kilometres, for both city and highway driving. With the automatic the fuel economy ratings remain the same in the city, but it drops to 5.4 L/100km on the highway.
As for the safety aspect, the 2014 Fit comes with six standard airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control, 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Parents can also take advantage of the childproof rear door locks, along with the child-seat restraint system known as LATCH.
The 2014 Honda Fit hatchback is roomy enough for up to 5 passengers, leaving the cargo space available for groceries or shopping items. The 2014 Fit is an easy, fun-to-drive and good-looking vehicle that is also affordable and fuel-efficient. Test it for yourself by booking a road test with your Bruce Honda dealership today!
