The 2016 Honda HR-V has recently arrived in dealerships, and consumers are loving every second of it. There is no question that the HR-V has filled a void that wasn’t taken care of previously as Honda’s lineup of sport utility vehicles, although competent and competitive, did not have a smaller offering to provide consumers.

That’s settled now with the 2016 Honda HR-V, an affordable, compact sport utility vehicle that starts at $ 20,690 and offers off the bat a rearview camera, heated seats, air conditioning and a cruise control. Being the tyke of the family doesn't mean there's a lack of utility, though. Just like the subcompact Fit hatchback on which it's based, the HR-V has what Honda calls a "Magic Seat," which is a configurable rear seat that gives the HR-V a distinctive ability to take on bulky or long cargo items with relative ease. Elsewhere, it's a more playful, jazzy shape--the roofline is arched high for headroom, the front fenders are quite pronounced, and there's a swell of sheetmetal at the shoulder line that extends down the side of the HR-V, past its hidden rear door handles.

Inside, it's just a nicer place to be than the Fit, thanks to added noise insulation, better materials, and finer details. The dual-screen clutter of bigger Hondas is absent in the HR-V. The HR-V mixes angles and curves in an attractive design that lends it a sporty look while hiding its budget-friendly roots. A 141-hp 1.8-liter four comes with either a six-speed manual or CVT and front- or all-wheel drive.
